The observation of long-range benzene–benzene interactions

Abstract

The linear polymethanoaromatic compounds, (2ac), (4a), (5a), and (6) have been synthesized and their photoelectron spectra measured, which revealed the presence of large π orbital interactions through bonds, for (2b,c), and laticyclic hyperconjugative interactions in (4a).
