Determination of thebaine in crude thebaine samples by infrared and ultraviolet spectrophotometric methods

Abstract

The determination of the thebaine content of crude thebaine concentrates by infrared and ultraviolet spectrophotometric methods is described. The results obtained with the two methods were found to compare favourably. The accuracy of these procedures was found to be superior to that of the K–34 (U.N.) method. The relative standard deviation of the IR method was 0.35% and that of the TLC-UV method was 0.26%.
