Mechanisms of transition metal interferences in hydride generation atomic-absorption spectrometry. Part 2. Influence of the valency state of arsenic on the degree of signal depression caused by copper, iron and nickel

Abstract

A significant influence of the valency state of arsenic was found on the degree of the signal depression owing to transition metals in hydride generation AAS. This phenomenon can be explained by the slower evolution of arsine from As(V) in comparison with As(III) and the more complete precipitation of the interfering metals by the time the hydride is formed. This observation supports the theory that the interferences are due to a gassolid reaction.
