Abstract

Activated olefins of the types Ph2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CXY, R2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CXY, PhRC[double bond, length half m-dash]CXY, and RCH[double bond, length half m-dash]CXY (where X and Y are electronegative substituents or one of them is a hydrogen atom) have been reduced to the corresponding saturated compounds in excellent yields by treatment with zinc–copper couple in boiling methanol.
