Benzo-15-crown-5 derivatives. Synthesis and properties as ion-extraction and ion-transport agents

Abstract

The preparation of some derivatives of benzo-15-crown-5 is described, each containing a carbohydrate moiety attached through either an ester or an ether linkage. The ion-extraction properties into dichloromethane of these and other related benzo-15-crown-5 derivatives towards lithium, sodium, and potassium picrate in aqueous solution have been measured, together with their ability to transport the alkalimetal picrates through a dichloromethane membrane.
