Equilibrium constants for electron-donor–acceptor complexes formed between hexamethylbenzene and 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene in carbon tetrachloride solution determined by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts

Abstract

Separate experiments, based on 13C and 1H chemical-shift measurements, respectively, for the system hexamethylbenzene (D)+ 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (A) in carbon tetrachloride under the condition [D][double greater-than, compressed][A] have yielded constants K1(for D + A ⇌ DA) and K2(for DA + D ⇌ D2A) which are in close agreement.
