Kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of nickel(II), cobalt(II), copper(II), and lron(III) with 1,1,1-trifluoropentane-2,4-dione

Abstract

The kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of 1,1,1-trifluoropentane-2,4-dione (Htfpd) with nickel(II), cobalt(II), copper(II), and iron(III) to form the mono complexes have been studied in aqueous solution at 25 °C and 0.5 mol dm–3 ionic strength. The equilibrium constants for these reactions have also been measured. The kinetic data are consistent with a mechanism in which the metal ion reacts exclusively with the enol tautomer of the β-diketone. The keto-tautomer is inert in all instances.
