Light scattering and neutron scattering from concentrated dispersions of small unilamellar vesicles

Abstract

Data are reported on the single-particle form factor P(Q) and the interparticle structure factor S(Q) for dispersions of small unilamellar vesicles at concentrations up to 4%(w/v) solids. The interparticle potential is investigated by varying the net charge on the vesicles (via the lipids used in the preparation) and by addition of electrolyte. The integrity of the vesicles with varying concentration allows S(Q) to be obtained by simple division of high- and low-concentration data. While the overall behaviour of S(Q) and S(0) is in agreement with model predictions, there are unresolved discrepancies.
