Formation of a N–C bond between co-ordinated α-di-imine and a novel diketene fragment; X-ray crystal structure of {Ru2(CO)5[PriN[horiz bar, double dot above]C(H)[horiz bar, double dot above](H)C–N(Pri)C(O)CH2C(O)CH2]}containing an η3-aza-allyl to Ru bonded moiety

Abstract

The reaction of H2C[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]O with [Ru2(CO)6(R-dab)][R-dab = RN[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)–(H)C[double bond, length half m-dash]NR; R = Pri, C6H11] at room temperature in heptane afforded in virtually quantitative yields {[graphic omitted]H2]}; the X-ray crystal structure for the compound with R [double bond, length half m-dash] Pri shows two novel structural features, (i), a head-to-tail bonded diketene moiety incorporated in a six membered R[graphic omitted](R) ring and (ii), an R-dab ligand converted into an η3-bonded amino-aza-allyl ligand.
