Heteronuclear unsaturated di- and tri-nuclear metal complexes; crystal structures of [CoRh(µ-CO)2(η-C5Me5)2] and [Rh2(µ-CO)2(η-C5Me5)2]

Abstract

The reaction between [Rh(Co)2(η-C5Me5)] and [Co(C2H4)2(η-C5Me5)] affords [CoRh(µ-Co)2(η-C5Me5)2], structurally characterised and compared with [Rh2(µ-Co)2(η-C5Me5)2] by X-ray crystallography; the cobalt–rhodium species gives [CoRh(µ-CH2)(Co)2(η-c5Me5)2]on treatment with diazomethane, and reacts with low valent metal complexes to give various tri- and tetra-nuclear metal cluster compounds.
