The formation of vinylidene molybdenum complexes and their transformation into mononuclear carbyne complexes; X-ray crystal structure of [Mo{C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh}Br{P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)]

Abstract

Reaction of [Mo(PhC2Br){P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)][BF4] with K[BHBu3s] or Li2Cu2Me4 gives respectively [Mo{C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh}Br{P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)] and [Mo[triple bond, length half m-dash]C·CMe2Ph{P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)]; the bromovinylidene react with K[BHBu3s] to give [Mo[triple bond, length half m-dash]C·CH2Ph{P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)] in good yield and with HBF4–Et2O to give [BrMo[triple bond, length half m-dash]C·CH2Ph{P(OMe)3}2(η-C5H5)][BF4], which is reduced by Na–Hg to [Mo[triple bond, length half m-dash]C·CH2Ph{P(OMe)3}2-(η-C5H5)].
