Abstract

A flexible and regiospecific synthesis of (±)-daunomycinone and (±)-11-deoxydaunomycinone is described starting from a common synthon, 2-acetyl-8-bromo-5-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroxy-4-one.
