Phosphorescence from the second triplet state of benzil and a related compound

Abstract

Benzil, which adopts a near-planar cisoid geometry on an excitaion in an ethylene glycol glass, and 10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene-10,11-dione, which has a rigid near-planar cisoid conformation, phosphoresce from the second triplet state.
