Use of laser Raman spectrometry for a quantitative study of the urea synthesis under process conditions. Part I. A feasibility study

Abstract

The feasibility of laser Raman spectrometry for the in situ determination of the chemical composition during the synthesis of urea under process conditions has been studied. Raman bands suitable for quantitative analysis were found for all components. The use of an internal standard appears to be essential. The influence of temperature and pressure upon molar intensities has been studied for model components and, as a result, for most components of the urea synthesis, no effect of pressure is expected. By contrast, the Raman spectra of all components will be affected by a change of temperature.
