Observations on the B3Σ u and B3Πu states of S2

Abstract

New photographs of the B3ΣuX3Σg system of 32S2 have been taken and fluorescence excited by several argon-ion and krypton-ion laser lines has been recorded. The rotational analysis of one band, the 1–4 band, is given in detail. A deperturbation of the levels of v= 1 in B3Σu is described and constants for the perturbing state B3Πu are derived and discussed. Some of the fluorescence series are assigned to 32S34S in natural abundance.
