Circular dichroism of gadolinium(III) tris(oxydiacetate) single crystal

Abstract

The electronic absorption and circular dichroism spectra of optically active single crystals of GdIII tris(oxydiacetate) are reported. The relative values of the ratio of rotational strength (RK) to square root of dipole strength (DK) are compared with relative values of the gross magnetic dipole moments of the ƒ→ƒ transitions. The validity of some “soft” selection rules for optical activity, e.g.ΔJ, ΔL⩽ 1, are considered.
