Diffusion of tritiated water (HTO) in dextran + water mixtures

Abstract

The diffusion of HTO has been measured in dextran solutions using an open-ended capillary technique and a newly developed Sundelöf diffusion cell. HTO diffusion has been examined as a function of dextran concentration and molecular weight. These results, together with our previous results on the intradiffusion and mutal-diffusion coefficients of dextrans, now provide a complete set of conventional translational diffusion coefficients for both components in this binary system. Various assumptions associated with the theoretical description of polymer translational motion can now be examined.
