New approach to the evaluation of single-ion conductances in pure and mixed non-aqueous solvents. [Part 2]

Abstract

Equivalent conductances of tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate (Bu4NBPh4) in acetonitrile (AN) and in several acetonitrile + benzene (AN + BN) mixtures covering the dielectric constant range 12.3 ⩽ε⩽ 36.0 have been measured at 25 °C. Limiting ion conductances λ°i for Bu4N+ and Ph4B have been determined by the method of Fuoss and coworkers; the ion conductances thus obtained are in quantitative agreement (within an average of ± 2 %) with the values predicted by an empirical equation already proposed from our laboratory. These investigations thus provide further positive support for our new method for the evaluation of limiting ion conductances.
