Heteronuclear metal cluster nitrides via NO cleavage

Abstract

Heatin [M(CO)2(NO)(η-C5H5)] and [M2(CO)6(η-C5H5)2](M = Mo or W) together at 200 °C yields metal cluster nitrides [M3(N)(O)(CO)4(η-C5H5)3](M3= Mo3, MoW2, and W3); isotopic labelling reveals that the co-ordinated oxygen does not evolve from NO, whose oxgen appears in CO2.
