Cleavage and formation reactions carbon–carbon and tungsten–carbon bonds involving bis-η-cyclopentadienyltungsten compounds

Abstract

Tungsten atoms react with spiro[2.4]hepta-4,6-diene giving [[graphic omitted]H2)2](1) which undergoes hydride abstraction with Ph3C+ giving the cation [W(η5:η2:η5-C5H4CH2CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHCH2C2H4)H]+(3); complex (1) react with PhlCl2 to give [W(η-C5H4CH2CH2Cl)2Cl2], (9), which is reduced back to (1) with sodium amalgam; the compounds [[graphic omitted]H2)(η-C5H4Et)I], (6) undergoes reversible 1,2-hydrogen shift reactions when treated with tertiary phosphines.
