Hydrogen transfer reactions in routes to µ-methylene-dirhodium or -di-iridium complexes

Abstract

Treatment of [(C5Me5Rh)2Cl4] with Al2Me6 gives [C5Me5RhMe2-Me-AlClMeL](L = AlMe2Cl etc.), which reacts smoothly with acetone to give first cis-and then trans-[C5Me5Rh(Me)(µ-CH2)2Rh(Me)C5Me5] in nearly quantitative Yield; isopropanol is also formed.
