Penta-co-ordinate iron (II) oxyporphyrin–2-methylimidazole complex; model of the heme oxygenase reaction

Abstract

The preparation of the iron(II) Oxymesoporphyrin-2-methylimidazole complex (1c), a model of the heme oxygenase reaction, is described; oxidation of this molecule by molecular oxygen to the biliverdin derivative via an intermediate with λmax 670 nm, with the concomitant release of carbon monoxide from the porphyrin skeleton is reported.
