The N2F4⇌ 2NF2 equilibrium studied with a tunable infrared diode laser

Abstract

The enthalpy change for the N2F4⇌ 2NF2 equilibrium has been determined at temperatures between 50 and 200 °C and pressures between 5 and 26 Torr using an infrared diode laser to measure relative NF2 concentrations; using lines in the ν1 band of NF2to determine intensities and allowing for the finite degree of dissociation at the pressures used, a value for ΔH of 78 ± 6kJ mol–1 was calculated, in good agreement with previous determinations.
