Electrochemical determination of trimethoprim

Abstract

A differential-pulse polarographic method has been developed for the determination of trimethoprim. The Ep occurs at –1.378 V when the pH of the system is 3.6. Cyclic voltammetry in anhydrous acetonitrile demonstrated that both trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole could be determined by anodic oxidation at a platinum electrode provided that each was present as a single entity.
