Determination of trace impurities in cumene by capillary gas chromatography

Abstract

Gas-chromatographic conditions have been established for the determination of trace hydrocarbons in cumene feed, employing a capillary (WCOT) column of UCON LB-550X under isothermal conditions. Retention indices for aromatic hydrocarbons are reported at five temperatures (90, 100, 110, 120 and 130 °C). Decane was used as an internal standard and precision data are reported for quantitative calculations. Under the reported conditions, it is possible to determine 5 p.p.m. of impurity without any pre-concentration in less than 30 min.
