Photochemistry of dehydrodipeptides related to β-lactam antibiotics

Abstract

The photochemistry of a series of β-thioacrylamides has been investigated. The acyclic compounds (9)–(12) undergo cistrans isomerisation and cyclisation to oxazoles such as (13) and (21). The cyclic β-thioacrylamide (23) undergoes a π2s2s cycloaddition reaction to give the interesting tricyclic β-lactam (29).
