Heats of dilution of aqueous solutions of hexamethylenetetramine at 25 °C

Abstract

A microcalorimeter for determining heats of dilution is described. The heats of dilution for aqueous solutions of hexamethylenetetramine are determined up to 0.3 mol kg–1 at 25 °C. The temperature dependence of the McMillan–Mayer solute–solute interaction coefficient is calculated from the data. A rigid particle model combined with an attractive potential is assumed for this coefficient. The solute–solute interaction is of the correct order of magnitude when compared with values for other molecules capable of forming hydrogen bonds.
