Aqueous hydroxide ion. Part 2.—Ionic association studies by proton magnetic resonance

Abstract

Measurements of the proton chemical shift in aqueous solutions of TlOH, TlNO3, KNO3, NaNO3, and LiNO3 are reported. Together with previous measurements on aqueous LiOH solutions, the data are analysed in terms of ionic association in the hydroxide solutions. The values of the ion-pair chemical shifts and the molal ionic shift for the thallous ion are discussed.
