Does the mode of preparation of an aluminosilicate influence the short-range Si,Al ordering?

Abstract

Magic-angle-spinning 29Si n.m.r. spectroscopy shows that 3 : 1 ordering (three AlO45– and one SiO44– surrounding each SiO44– tetrahedron) occurs in zeolite A irrespective of the method of preparation, whereas in sodalite and cancrinite which also have Si, Al ratios close to unity, either 4 : 0 or 3 : 1 ordering may occur.
