Synthesis and X-ray structural characterization of [Me4N]3{[(SCH2CH2S)MoS3]2Fe}, the first example of a heteronuclear trimer containing molybdenum in a square-pyramidal geometry

Abstract

Reaction of a mixture of (NH4)2MoS4 disodium ethane-1,2-dithiolate in dimethylformamide-MeCN with a methanolic solution of anhydrous FeCl3, followed by the addition of Me4NBr, gives the trinuclear complex [Me4N]3{[(SCH2CH2S)MoS3]2Fe}, an X-ray crystal structure of which shows the molybdenum atoms to have distorted square-pyramidal geometry and the iron atom to be tetrahedrally co-ordinated to four µ-sulphido-ligands.
