Hexadecamethoxy- and hexadecaethoxy-tetratungsten: preparation and X-ray crystal and molecular structure of W4(OEt)16

Abstract

In hydrocarbon solvents, W2(NMe2)6 and the alcohols MeOH and EtOH react to give W4(OR)16 compounds; the ethoxide adopts a structure akin to that of [Ti(OEt)4]4, but with distortions due to M–M bonds which arise from the presence of the four tungsten d2 ions.
