Kinetics of sulphodeacylation of dimesityl ketone: a dual-path sequence of first-order reactions

Abstract

The kinetics of the conversion in 89.8%(w/w) sulphuric acid of 2,2′,4,4′,6,6′-hexamethylbenzophenone (A) into 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulphonic acid (D) were measured, and analysed in terms of the dual-path first-order reaction sequence (A)[graphic omitted], where (B) and (C) are, respectively, 2,4,6-trimethylbenzoic acid and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene.
