Polynomial matrix method for the estimation of π-electron energies of some linear conjugated molecules

Abstract

The polynomial matrix method (PMM) is applied to the study of the characteristic polynomials of two classes of molecular graphs: Rn and Sn. Various identities and inequalities for these polynomials are deduced. Lower and upper bounds for the total π-electron energy of Sn are obtained. An alternative formulation of the PMM is proposed.
