But-1-ene transformations on modificated forms of a synthetic zeolite of the erionite—offretite type

Abstract

Hydrogen forms of a zeolite of the erionite—offretite type obtained by treatment with hydrochloric acid or via the decomposition of the ammonium form have been shown, by temperature programmed desorption combined with gas—liquid chromatography, to be catalytically active in but-1-ene transformations at room temperature. But-1-ene is first isomerized to trans- and cis-but-2-enes and is consecutively transformed mainly into propene, propane and n-butane, depending on the extent of zeolite decationization. Brönsted acid centres of the samples under study were characterized by i.r. spectroscopy. But-1-ene transformations on the hydrogen forms of erionite—offretite were compared with known but-1-ene transformations on H-Y in terms of shape-selective effects.
