Structures of tin oxide—antimony oxide catalysts

Abstract

Phase relationships in the fully oxidised Sb–Sn–O system have been examined and evidence obtained for the formation of a previously unreported compound. Complete equilibration is difficult to achieve in this system but it would seem that the solid solution range of antimony oxides in SnO2 is limited. At low temperatures the material is highly disordered and it is suggested that this provides a suitable structural environment for catalytic activity.
