Structures of tin oxide—antimony oxide catalysts

Abstract

Phase relationships in the fully oxidised Sb–Sn–O system have been examined and evidence obtained for the formation of a previously unreported compound. Complete equilibration is difficult to achieve in this system but it would seem that the solid solution range of antimony oxides in SnO₂ is limited. At low temperatures the material is highly disordered and it is suggested that this provides a suitable structural environment for catalytic activity.
