Formation of diamagnetic and paramagnetic carbacobaltaboranes from closo-carbaboranes: the synthesis and molecular structures of 2,2,2-(H)(Et3P)2-2,1,8-CoC2B6H8 and 2,2-(Et3P)2-2,1,6-CoC2B3H5

Abstract

Reaction of [Co(PEt3)4] with closo-1,7-C2B6H8 or closo-1,5-C2B3H5 affords, respectively, 2,2,2-(H)(Et3P)2-2,1,8-CoC2B6H8 and 2,2-(Et3P)2-2,1,6-CoC2B3H5, the structures of both complexes being established by X-ray crystallography.
