Synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of [(OC)3Fe(µ-Ph2PCHPPh2)FeH(CO)3], and the synthesis of the bridging vinylidene complex [Fe2(µ-C[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(µ-CO)(CO)2(η-C5H5)2]

Abstract

Reaction of the di-iron complex [Fe2(µ-CO)(dppm)(CO)6](dppm = Ph2PCH2PPh2) with methyllithium followed by CF3CO2H gives the compound [(OC)3[graphic omitted]eH(CO)3], the structure of which was established by X-ray crystallography; in contrast, with the same reagents [Fe2(CO)4(η-C5H5)2] affords the vinylidene complex [Fe2(µ-C[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(µ-CO)(CO)2(η-C5H5)2].
