Synthesis and crystal structure of hexakistrimethylphosphine(dihydrido)-µ-dihydrido-dimolybdenum(II)(MoMo)

Abstract

The interaction of dimolybdenum tetra-acetate, Mo2(O2CMe)4, with sodium amalgam in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of an excess of trimethylphosphine under hydrogen (3 atm) yields the dimeric phosphine hydride (Me3P)3HMo(µ-H)2MoH(PMe3)3, whose structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods.
