Variation of intra-and inter-particle porosity with degree of compaction

Abstract

The porosity of compacts of magnesium trisilicate has been determined by low temperature nitrogen adsorption and mercury intrusion methods. An insight into the compaction mechanism has been obtained because the total porosity of the compacts decreases rapidly as the compaction pressure is initially increased, and then becomes progressively slower. The results are in agreement with the porosity-compaction relationship put forward by Bockstiegel.
