Improvements to the spectrophotometric determination of germanium with bromopyrogallol red

Abstract

The effect of various dispersants on the determination of germanium with bromopyrogallol red has been examined. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and gelatin gave rapid colour development. CTAB is preferred on the grounds of convenience and allowing a lower coefficient of variation. Potential interferences were studied and the method was applied to the analysis of organogermanium compounds after their oxygen-flask combustion.
