The stereoisomeric 1,7-dioxides (3) and (4) of 2,8-dihydrodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dithiocin have been prepared and their relative configuration (cis or trans) has been assigned by variable-temperature 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy and partial resolution of the cis-bis (dioxide)(3).
