Structural analysis of some molten materials by X-ray diffraction. Part 6.—MnCl2· 2RCl (R[double bond, length as m-dash]Li and K)

Abstract

The structures of molten MnCl2· 2LiCl and MnCl2· 2KCl have been investigated by analysing the radial distribution function from the X-ray diffraction data. The existence of a tetrahedral [MnCl4] unit in these systems was confirmed from the first peak of each radial distribution functin. The result is consistent with the Raman spectra and absorption spectra in these molten systems.
