Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic and chlorine-35 nuclear quadrupole resonance spectra of chloro(trifluoromethyl)phosphines and chloro(trifluoromethyl)phosphine oxides

Abstract

The 35Cl n.q.r. and 13C n.m.r. spectra of the series of compounds P(CF3)nCl3 –n and P(CF3)nCl3 –nO with O < n < 3 have been recorded. The results show that both the 35Cl n.q.r. frequencies and the 1J(CP) coupling constants are very sensitive to substitution on the phosphorus atom. The trends in these parameters are discussed; they are consistent with a high electronegativity for the CF3 group.
