Synthesis and X-ray molecular structure of [Ru3(CO)62-C2But)(µ2–η2-C2But)(PPh2)2(Ph2PC2-But)]; a cluster containing symmetrical and unsymmetrical edge bridging alkynyl groups

Abstract

Oxidative cleavage of the phosphinoalkyne Ph2PC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CBut by Ru3(CO)12 gives good yields of a carbonyl cluster [Ru3(CO)6(µ2-C2But)(µ2η2-C2But)(PPh2)2(Ph2PC2But)].(C7H8) which is shown by X-ray crystallography to contain both symmetrical (µ2) and unsymmetrical (µ2η2) edge bridging –C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CBut groups.
