1,5-Sigmatropic formyl migration in 5-formyl-1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylcyclopenta-1,3-diene is rapid at 25 °C (kisom. 90 s–1); line shape analysis of 1H n.m.r. spectra obtained between –20 and +70 °C shows migration is associated with an activation enthalpy of 13·2 ± 0·3 kcal mol–1 and an activation entropy of –5·1 ± 0·2 cal K–1 mol–1(1 cal = 4·184 J).
