Halogenation of bis[dicarbonyl(ethyltetramethylcyclopentadienyl)ruthenium(I)]; X-ray structure of tribromocarbonyl(ethyltetramethylcyclopentadienyl)ruthenium(IV)

Abstract

Halogens react with the compound [Ru(η5-C5Me4Et)(CO)2]2 to give first the halogeno-bridged cation [{Ru(η5-C5Me4Et)(CO)2}2X]+ and then [Ru(η5-C5Me4Et)(CO)2X](X = Cl, Br, or I), the bromide reacts further with bromine to give [Ru(η5-C5Me4Et)(CO)Br3] whose X-ray structure is reported.
