Dinuclear arene hydrido-complexes of ruthenium(II): reactions with olefins and catalysis of homogeneous hydrogenation of arenes

Abstract

The dinuclear hydrido-complex [(η6-C6Me6)Ru(µ-H)2(µ-Cl)Ru(η6-C6Me6)]Cl reacts with mono-olefins to give the corresponding alkanes and either η3-allylruthenium(II) or dieneruthenium(0) complexes; it also catalyses efficient homogeneous hydrogenation of a range of arenes to the corresponding cyclohexanes under mild conditions.
