Aspects of the chemistry of methyl 3-hydroxycyclohexa-1,5-diene-1-carboxylate: a methyl benzoate hydrate

Abstract

Methyl 3-hydroxycyclohexa-1,5-diene-1-carboxylate (10) is prepared in two steps from methyl cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1-carboxylate (7), and its dehydration, hydrolysis, acetylation, reduction, and epoxidation are reported, together with its Diels–Alder reaction with 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione.
