Sulphochlorophenol N as a spectrophotometric reagent for vanadium(V)

Abstract

A spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of vanadium(V) with sulphochlorophenol N is described. With this reagent, vanadium forms a blue complex, which is stable in the pH range 3.7–6.0. The coloured complex obeys Beer's law at 627 nm in aqueous solution with a molar absorptivity of 3.12 × 104 l mol–1 cm–1. Copper and cobalt ions interfere in this method.
