The chemistry of tricarbonyliron complexes of precalciferol2 and tachysterol2

Abstract

Photolysis of ergosterol in the presence of pentacarbonyliron gave (tachysterol2)tricarbonyliron and (precalciferol2)-tricarbonyliron as major and minor products respectively. Oxidation of these complexes with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone gave (5E,7Z,22E)-9,10-secoergosta-1(10),5,7,9(11),22-pentaen-3β-ol.
